Visit us during Heritage week for a Graveyard Tour, an Industrialisation Tour or a House Tour.
The Industrialisation Tour includes a talk of the part played by the McMorrough Kavanaghs in the industrial heritage of Borris demesne.
During this talk you will learn about Boris House and its role as a core estate, which was home to a laundry, a carpentry, a hospital box, an abattoir, blacksmiths, a saw mill, gasworks and various lime kilns.
You will hear about Lady Harriet Kavanagh and the Borris Lace Industry and you will also be informed about Arthur McMorrough Kavanagh, the man responsible for bringing the railway to Borris.
During this talk you will visit some of the industrial buildings associated with the estate.
The Graveyard Tour consists of a walk through the woods to the graveyard where I will give you a short talk about some of the people who are interred there.
On the way I shall regale you with some interesting facts stories and legends about the estate and the people who lived here. On the way back we can complete the loop by walking alongside the mountain river which is a grassy and slightly rougher walk than the way we get to the graveyard, or we can retrace our steps and return the same way we came.
